Beach House - Depression Cherry: Rated

DEPRESSION CHERRY (2015): 7.9/10
DEPRESSION CHERRY (2015): 7.9/10

Ethereal and transitional are two of the many ways I would describe this album. At times, I was so enthralled by the songs on this album, but it did lose me a couple of times there.

Individually, the tracks are good. Especially Space Song, Wildflower and Days of Candy. I thought the latter was an excellent way to conclude such a great album. It’s got this warm, heavy, velvety sound that just won’t let you go. The trouble then, with me personally, is that it envelops your senses almost completely and doesn’t let you breathe.

PPP is a great track, don’t get me wrong. I liked it and was close to giving it a 10, but the repetitive ending really ticked me off and I had to skip it. That motif that continues insisting until oblivion, repeating itself over and over was a sensory overload for me. I just couldn’t do it.

Oddly enough, I think that in its occasional discomfort it manages to encapsulate the theme of depression so well in its sound that it deeply impressed me.
